CommentsWelcome to the new millennium gentlemen (and ladies). We hope to get a lot of photo submissions for the web site this year. Please share your memories with the other 135th members. Have a safe and prosperous year.
CommentsI haven't found a better kept web site out there. I hope to see lots of new photos and new members on the E-Mail list this year. I am thankful for this web page, as I have found many old friends, and made many more new ones.
CommentsI want to say thanks for posting the pics of my cousin Larry Steppee that I sent. This is a great site I've been searching for info about Larry for a while and its nice to know that so many members of the unit have found this site and are able to stay in contact. I've said it before; Welcome Home and Thank You.
CommentsThis page is still looking good. Hope to be in Australia for the reunion.
CommentsOnce again I want to thank you Steve and Bill for this great web site, I know that all of the guy's are thankful for your hard work maintaining this site. And we are all proud to be a part of it. Have a great 2001, and I hope to connect with you Steve in this coming year.
CommentsWeb site great. Like all I see. Have some pictures, will send soon EDavis
CommentsAbsolutely a fine, fine web site. You've done yourselves proud boy's. To any member of the 135th, who served in any year, any platoon, or whom is associated with someone from our ranks, know that to reconnect with your fellow unit members is one of the finest moments you will ever have in life. The next time you have a glass in your hand, raise it to toast, "here's to the survivors, may we do well to please our fallen comrades".
CommentsHey Guys, Don't forget Australia Day on January 26
CommentsMy Advisor Group meet the Aussies in 1970 and I ended up spending weekends flying as Lt. Abraham's doorgunner. Finally was able to get in contact and have found several of the fourth group and have meet some of the earlier members. Looking forward to 2002. Would like to find all of the Australian members of the fourth group before the reunion in 2002, especially Robert Horton and W.J. Fowler.
CommentsI am the father of CWO James E. Schunemann, KIA on 20 Mar 70. His mother and I are delighted to view your website with so much information and pictures. You are to be commended for all the effort and dedication you have shown in keeping memories of your great unit alive. Keep up the good work!
CommentsThank you all for the great letters about James Schunemann. Glad to know he was as loved out there as he was at home. Keep up the good work on the web pages. Love to read about the way it really was. Thanks again, Gary
CommentsFriend of Shu Shu's brother Gary!
CommentsIt's good after all these years to be back in touch with the people from the 135th! I arrived in Bear Cat July, '69 and left in August , '70. I took over the operation of the company wrecker for the last couple of months I was there. The wrecker was used for removing and installing engines, transmissions and main rotor blades, etc. John Spears was operating the wrecker in the last couple months before he left for home. He taught me the operation of the vehicle. I stayed in the maintenance barracks in the company area and then I moved over to the motor pool area behind the chapel. I still have my 135th Company yearbook with pictures, etc. - This yearbook has everyone's individual picture. I worked for BHI (Bell Helicopter International) in Esfahan, Iran from 1976 - 1979, and right now I'm working as a mechanic for United Airlines in San Francisco. Feel free to email me if you'd like to talk about old times in Vietnam or Iran. My email address is seacove[at]pacbell.net.
CommentsMy name is Ed Schunemann Brother of CWO James E. Schunemann. Thank you so much for all of the kind words and really great stories about Jimmy. You guys are the best. Thanks again for every thing.
CommentsI was in the engine shop my first year. Then crew chief on 393. Enjoy hearing from any and all. Living in Indiana. It's great to hear from so many, after so long, thanks
CommentsGood looking site. I'm interested in the Australian presence in Vietnam and found your site to be most helpful in listing the RAN personnel assigned. I was Paris 33 in June 71-Jun 72 and probably talked to a few of you when you flew in our AO.
CommentsLooking forward to seeing everyone in Nowra next year.
CommentsDo you remember a Gary L Magnus who was a door gunner for the 135th Taipans at Di An in 1971? If so please contact me, he is my brother and is looking for some information. Thank you Tim Magnus
CommentsEnjoyed the site. I was crew chief on EMU 112 for most of my tour and crewed EMU 266 (Vung Tau Express) the last couple of months of time in Vietnam. Would enjoy hearing from any EMUs or Taipans that remember me. Bob Mounts
CommentsThank you! You honor us. You honor US.
CommentsWould not mind hearing from others. Is there ever going to be a reunion?
CommentsWas fortunate enough to meet one of your unit Army buddies here in the States about 12 years ago. Thomas Scanlon. Now resides in Tenn. he can be reached at <TBscanlon[at]aol.com> drop him a line .. and get the bloody job done!
CommentsHelp form unit at Ft Hood, TX. Deployed to RVN with unit. Later was transferred to 240th (Greyhounds) at Bear Cat.
CommentsThis is a great site. It has a lot of good stuff on it and some great photo's. I am very proud to have known you Americans as we fought along side of you. John
CommentsG'Day guys. I have a mate down under who has access to our 135th. plaque (Quite nice looking) it has our unit patch (Metal) in full color in the center, ribbon above with caption "GET THE BLOODY JOB DONE" Viet ribbons below patch and ribbon below that with RAN HELICOPTER FLIGHT, VIET NAM 1967 - 1971. The plaque stands 7 inches tall and 6 inches wide. He can ship at a cost of $40.00 US plus $10.00 US for shipping charges. If interested, contact me for details, payment, etc. I will take photo of mine and E-Mail you an attachment if you are interested.
Commentsgreat site
CommentsI am the sister of CWO James E. Schunemann. I thank you for the wonderful stories of Jim, I'm so happy to hear he was a very funny guy. It makes the few memories I have of him (9 when KIA) pleasant. Thank You Marilyn
CommentsGreat web site! Thank you.
CommentsPleased to see the "Taipans" finally being recognised. Unfortunately very little is said about the "Taipans" of the first 135th AHC unit. Baz Todd, Terry Brookes and myself, John Peart, were the original Australian gunners and crew chiefs of the 135th AHC. Dave "Blue" Green came along quite some time after the formation of the unit. Blue was also a very good friend of mine and I'm very upset over his demise. Lest We Forget John G Peart Armourer/DoorGunner 3rd Platoon - Gun Platoon 1967 - 1968
CommentsGentlemen, I have had the pleasure to have known several Australian Members, Graham Rohrsheim, Eric Wile, Marty Ward, Brian Abraham, Jim Gumley. Over here in Saudi I am flying with a US member, L. Pat Kirsch. There is a book available in Australia called "Get the Bloody Job Done" by Steve Eather. Cheers, Stewart Davis.
CommentsDave Curtin would you please send me a copy of the unit plaque that you speak of. The reunion committee here in Australia would like to have a Memorial made for the 2002 reunion. we need to use the correct & most accepted version of the EMU badge. Any one else out there who has a similar copy please send it to me condensed to JPEG or similar also Dave if you could put your contact in Australia on to me we would appreciate it thanks & HI to all JIM HILL
CommentsMy father, Spec 4 Hilary Turner, was with the 135th 1969-1971(2). I started a book on you guys in 1999, and had to put it aside while completing Honours studies in 2000. I'm back to start interviewing again!! My project is to combine personal stories with research, an idea put to me by Steve Eather the writer of the 135th AHC book by Allen & Unwin and published in the USA. I want to inform those of my generations of what service life and experience is really about. Jim Hill, if you catch this, please email me about this reunion that's happening in Nowra 2002??

CommentsI worked for a brief time in the engine shop, but took over the Motor Pool for the rest of my tour in Viet Nam. The 135th AHC Site is a great site, and I will have some pictures to contribute, just as soon as I figure out how to sign up. Would love to hear from any mates who remember me.
CommentsThe movie page has got to be the high light of my day. FULL screen. Wish they were longer. I love interrupting Jeopardy, HA! Steve
CommentsWelcome Home Brothers!!!!! Lets not EVER forget the ones that never made it back. Always remember the great things that we accomplished and there were some!!!! The best damn helicopter personnel in the world!!!!
CommentsIt is good to finally find the site. Will greatly enjoy having a wander around.
CommentsA fabulous site, painstakingly maintained and for me, visited often. I will continue to send relevant pictures, patches, certificates etc for my little contribution.
CommentsGreat Website! Many good and some sad memories about serving with the 135th. Roomed with Tony Casadio while 135th was in Vung Tau. Keep up the great work.
CommentsI talked to G. H. McGough and he told me of your website. very nice, slickly done, and pretty thorough even if my name was left out. I'll look through my stuff for any interesting pictures usually I shot movies.
CommentsANZAC DAY 2001 I'm up for the dawn service at Bomaderry 0545 Sunrise then a commemorative march at 0900 to remember our comrades LEST WE FORGET Only one year to go boys Reunion 2002 BE THERE
CommentsHi there Great Site I'm all booked for Louisville so I hope to see a lot of you again this year this time my wife ( Claire) is coming to see what its all about. I am bringing with me E.M.U. Plaques, Badges, & Pins. also Taipan badges and 2 platoon badges but I'm having trouble finding a 1st Platoon badge the only one I can find is the one with snoopy on if that is the one I may have trouble with copyright if I make them. Website is being developed with lots of goodies hoping to include a swap content. Andy Curran
CommentsTwo of us "Blackcats" had the privilege to fly with the EMUs in late 1969. We were visiting our buddy,(3 days R&R) who was stationed at Long Thanh. We always wanted to see the "Delta" so we asked to fly with you for a day. After we were checked out by your Operations guys, we flew as Guest Gunners. I can still hear the crew laughing after I took 10 paces from the ship, at a LZ in the Delta, to retrieve something and struggled back to my door after gaining about 50 lbs of Delta Mud on my boots. I felt like a FNG! Great Website and I will always have fond memories of the 135th.
CommentsTHIS IS A GREAT SITE KEEP UP THE GOOD WORK THE LITTLE STATE OF R.I.
CommentsA wonderful web site. I am impressed by your work and also want to thank you for linking all the other AHC units from your web site - this is a real service to many who come looking for their units. I will be adding a short article and link to your web site on my online newsletter "The Spiritual Warrior" in my next issue. Rev. Bill
CommentsBrothers, I was sent your link by Alan Winchombe and glad I did. I was happy to find so many of the EMU's in Charlotte. I was very sorry to hear about the Kangaroo taking out Dave Green. After all those bullets, a kangaroo gets him. [friendly fire]. I have been talking to Andy Curran. He and Claire will be attending the VHCMA in Louisville. What a thrill to see him 2 years in a row and will miss the rest of you. You've got a great web site. You should be quite proud.
CommentsGreat Web site. Looking forward to attending Reunion Nowra, 2002.

CommentsHi, I'm looking for information on my uncle Mark Absher. He was Gen. Hollingsworth pilot in Lai Khe Spring Of 1972. I would appreciate any information on units, in or around Lai Khe during that period. Please help, I have hit a dead end. All of my uncles records have been lost this is all I have. Thank You, Sean Absher
CommentsThis is a great site. Much thanks to those who put so much work into this site. This is a good weekend, Memorial Day, to remember old friends who are no longer with us. Greetings to all the members of the 135th AHC and their families.
CommentsWhat a great job you guys have done and are doing with this site. You have made us proud again. Thanks.
CommentsThe following is taken from the April 2001 edition of The Signal, the official journal of the Returned and Services League SA Branch. Advice has been received from the Military Awards Branch of the Department of the Army (US) that they have agreed to award Air Medals to RAN Pilots or any other RAN personnel, that are able to produce Flight Logs proving HFV hours flown with the 135th AHC. The article concludes by saying that further information is available from the RSL State Branch Office.
CommentsI came back for my second tour and was assigned to the 214th BN at Bearcat. I was there for a short time when we got orders to move to Dong Tam. We had a Engineer Major who was to go down and build the barracks but unfortunately he had hepatitis and was evacuated to the states. I was in construction before the Army so I was volunteered to go to Dong Tam. After 3 or 4 days two Hooks landed and discharged about forty of the saddest looking selectees that the units had sent me.. This finally ended up with about 100 men and after about sixty days we completed the housing for the two units that came down... This was just about my hardest assignment in Nam. I left there in Feb 69 and assumed command of the 173rd Robinhoods As you can see I'm new to computers but I'm having a ball trying to stir up old memories.. Your website is one of the best that I've seen James W (Bill) Griffin
CommentsGreat WEB SITE , Movie Clips, Pictures, Music gave this site a nice touch...keep up the good work will visit again
CommentsThe best web page I have seen. You guys have done an awesome job on this and is for the enjoyment of not just your unit. Rich
CommentsGreat site, brought back lots of memories. Welcome Home. Felix Bates Slidell Louisiana
CommentsHi I'm packed and on my way to Louisville. Watch out for a Hertz hire car, I hope your weather is warm here in Western Australia It Is bucketing down Ill be happy to get away for a few weeks. My website Is now up, just a start but It will Grow as I receive more products, STILL looking for a patch for first platoon, and if anyone has anything they want reproduced I can do that. www.warbadges.com See you there Andy Curran
CommentsI am trying to locate Joe Tunstall, Frank Strickland and any of the others who were infused from the 191st AHC to the 135th AHC about October of 1967. The 191st AHC is holding a reunion Sept 13 to Sept 16 in St Louis. Would like to see a lot of old friends at the reunion. If you have any information call 1-800-453-1127 and ask for Phil Stanley.
CommentsGood site. I was based with your 135th AHC during 1970 at Dong Tam, I know Sub Lt Andy Perry who was about to go home when I arrived at Dong Tam. There were about twelve Aussies from the AATTV based at Dong Tam training the 7th ARVN Div soldiers.
CommentsCome home often (here) love the site!!! Still have some EMU patches left. Can be contacted at my new E-Mail address listed here (emu135[at]earthlink.net). Anyone who comes across Chuck Nudo or Dave Owens tell them I'm looking for them!!!
CommentsMy Father, Judd Hendricks worked with the 135th in Bear Cat as a civilian tech rep on the helos with Cliff Reed. Judd was in an auto accident on May 2nd, 2001 in Sarajevo and died from his injuries on the 3rd. His ashes were buried in Arlington in June. Dad spoke fondly of his time with the EMU's, he considered you all to be his family while in country. He was proud of the work he did, and proud of working with men like you all who served so faithfully. If any of you remember Judd, hoist a beer in his memory. Thank you Glenn Hendricks
CommentsHello to all... So glad to finally find this site..and what a site it is. Certainly one of the best I've ever seen. and I'm sure one of the best I ever will. I will never forget my very 1st days as a WO-1 in the 135th..names that come to mind quickly. Cpt. Les Rayburn...Cpt John Shea..from Kansas like me. More later on I'm sure...Thanks. Johnny Burns

CommentsGreat web site!
CommentsVERY nice website, well done! I wasn't in your old AO, but know a local Vet who was at Di An (I have forwarded your URL to him). WANTED: Audiotapes of Vietnam radio traffic, fire missions, firefights, incoming, cockpit tapes, AFVN, etc. Also Vietnam home movies on VHS. I have LOTS of the same and can email my listings. Thanks, welcome home!
CommentsHey, there are some HTML wizards at this site. This has to be one of the most animated, neat sites I have seen. You guys sure do know how to put together a superb tribute to your 'Nam buddies. Great work- I will have to spend more time here.
CommentsFantastic job on the web site. I was excited to see an old photograph of me in Dong Tam. Hard to believe I am still alive after thirty years. I am currently flying for FedEx and get to Sydney every month for a couple of days. Would like to see some of the old mates! Drop me an e-mail. Steve
CommentsHave moved to Wichita, KS to work for Cessna. Look forward to April's get together.
CommentsCame by to see the memorial page (Darkie Phillips). I will be sending his picture. I think I have one of Fennel around here somewhere. Also have one Capt. Fleer if I can find it. I should also have Cavenaugh. I wish I would had written all of the names down.
CommentsIn late 1967 or early 1968 I was a gunner on Harry Porters ship. Coming out of a night infantry position we took a single hit that messed up our hydraulics. We had to make an emergency landing at Can Tho. On the approach we flew over the Mekong, was glad we didn't go down there. Our pilots did a great job and got us down in one piece. Harry fixed the leak and we went on our way. The pilots were two Australians, Crawford and Dagleish. I have never seen them on this page or the previous 135th page. If possible I would like to hear from them.
CommentsHi guys, Great site which brings back so many memories. Thank you for all the work you do to keep it current. To any of you blokes who were in Dong Tam at the same time as myself I would love to hear from you. Please e-mail or ring 07 32861664. Otherwise I look forward to seeing you all in Nowra next April. Best regards....Barry
CommentsSp4 Cavanaugh was listed as gunner . He was the crew chief and Pfc Labuda was the gunner. I know because I was to fly in Cavanaugh place. I did the schedule for the first platoon. At the time of takeoff, he came out and went in my place. My gunner was Pfc Labuda. If anyone has a picture of Pfc Labuda, I would like a cope of it. I have told this to very few people. I feel as though I should of been on that flight.
CommentsErnie I was a gunner on Earl Juhl's ship on 2/8/68. We were a couple of ships behind Capt. Fleer's ship. When we got into that LZ I was hit in the leg. On the way out of the LZ a heavy burst of tracers hit Capt Fleer's ship and it went in. There was nothing any of us could do. It was not your fault. There was nothing you could have done. I am glad you made it through Vietnam. It is good to remember our old friends, like Fleer, Moore, Cavanaugh and Labuda who are no longer with us. You are a good man Ernie to remember old friends. God bless and keep you,
CommentsGlen Moore took my place on Cpt Fleer's last flight. I, too, sometimes wonder why him, and not me. But, life goes on. If we think about the whole picture, there were many "what ifs" during Vietnam.
CommentsPlease make a donation to YOUR favorite charity in memory of our fallen brothers on this national day of sorrow!! Please pray for all who have suffered in these cowardly attacks on our nation. Pay back WILL be forthcoming! "WHO KILLS A MAN, KILLS A WORLD. HOW MANY WORDS HAVE THEY KILLED?"
Comments...and what a strange trip it's been... anybody else remember the night Charlie blew up the ammo dump at Di An late in 1970? After the nut roll at the arms room where guys were trying to get M-16s with their meal cards, we all took our lawn chairs up on the roof to watch the show about 2 clicks away... I remember many fearful "oooooo's" and drunken "ahhhh's" that night as rockets swooshed over our shoulders and concussions thumped us in our chairs. It was quite a show, and it lasted for hours... played hell getting those M-16s back, too. The CO's hootch was fragged twice while I was there. One lucky dud, and one when nobody was home... I was *sheriff* for the one that went off. After that? Things just got weirder...
CommentsThanks Steve and Bill (Hy) for all the great work on your web page. Does anybody remember Sp/5 Pope (2nd Plt) from Blackhorse? Where is Wayne Short after all these years? Thank you Emu's and Taipans for a job well done. ....Kelly Odell (odie)
CommentsGreat Web Page. I was in Aircraft supply from August 68 to Feb 70 and then crewed from Mar - Oct 70 with the Taipans. Had a nice long phone call from my old AC Sam Echols this week, some voices don't change at all. Keep up the fine page. If anyone knows of the where abouts of Bob Johnson ( Johno ) from Montana let me know. Peace, Buzz z zz zzz z z z z zz
CommentsThanks to David Benge for being persistent. Who lives near Darwin/Katherine...how about Rockhampton? I get there occasionally. My wife Barbara, daughter Taylor (11) and I are living in Iwakuni Japan. We will be here for another 9 months. I'm currently the CO of a Marine Air Group. F/A-18s. We are planning a vacation in Australia early next year on the sun coast. The reunion will fit our plan perfectly.
Commentsand for a few short weeks and EMU- Vung Tau. I was one of the "camel drivers" with the "Lone Stars" at Ft Hood and was infused into the Boomerangs at Bear Cat in early November 67 right after in-country training. A great web-sight
Commentsgreat site, brings back a lot of memories of good people but a shit place
CommentsAfter all these years have found the 135ahc web site have also been in touch with a few guys from the 4th contingent. All this has happened in the last few weeks. I was Motor Pool SGT and flew on about 13 missions as Right Door Gunner. Still have fond memories of 135 and always will..... Regards Mal (Goss)
CommentsThis September I attended a reunion of the 191st AHC. Deployed with them from Ft Bragg 5/67 and was infused to the 135th AHC about 10/67. The reunion was great! If you can get to a reunion make sure you do. We were talking , complaining actually, about Army food. One of the wives said, " didn't you guys ever get good food?" I had to tell them about Thanksgiving Dinner at Vung Tau in 1967. The whole Company sat down to a meal at the same time. The Cooks had set the tables with Tablecloths, China, and first class Silverware. There was Turkey with all the trimmings, Pumpkin pies and even Wine! It was the best meal I ever had in the Army. Thanks to the guys who made it happen! I want to wish Happy Holidays to all the members of the 135th AHC and their families.
