Hi All EMUs.
What an interresting year 09 is about to bring to us all.
So having said that, I have mentioned that a 09 reunion to a few of the US and AUSTRALIAN MEMBERS of the EMUs.
So far I have suggested that the VHCMA Annual reunion in Reno NV 17th June may be the best venue. This assembly of terrific Vietnam Veterans is always a great gathering of men and stories.
The VHCMA Committee have always made the 135th EMUs more than welcome regardless of rank and status. Tom Frankenfield and his VHCMA committee go the extra mile for us. The Room rates are great, company is better.
So, I have your attention now look at the www.vhcma.org and see if you can gather enough interrest to attend. Remember Dallas 98 and Charlotte 00.
Dusty Baber, Lloyd Ankrum, Lloyd Ballard, Mike Guard, Mike Leary, John Chea, Geoff Carr, Mike Hickman, Tom Staadt, Fred Dunaway, Ken Seeholm, Cliff Reed, Dave Benge to name a few have indicated that they will come.
IF you cant attend spread the word that this event is on.
See you all soon
Dave Benge

My father was SSG George B. Crenshaw assigned to Bear Cat. He found this website just recently and was excited to see some of his friends in pictures on here. He is alive and very well and is looking forward to any contact from people he served with. He was the crew chief on 708 and was injured when the helicopter was shot down, and landed in the canal. He was very surprised to see the pictures of the copter being salvaged. We both think this is a great site and thank you for putting it together. I have a few pictures from the 135th that he took and I will be sharing them with everyone very soon. In the mean time, anyone wanting to contact my father can do so by emailing me their contact info and I will be more then glad to give it to him. He hopes and looks forward to hearing from people. Please send email to georgecrenshaw[at]ymail.com and I will make sure he gets it. Thank you, George Crenshaw Jr.

Hello, I sending this email because my father is George Crenshaw. He served with the 135th from 7/7/70 to 3/5/71. He was a crew chief and was on board of helicopter 708 the day it was shot down and landed in the canal. He found the website you set up and was excited to see pictures of not only the bird he was in but of his friends as well. He dug out some pics he has of when he was in the 135th. I plan on emailing them to you asap. He is also looking forward to hearing from some of the men he flew and served with. I am extremely proud of my father and what he did for our country over in Vietnam and if I can help him get in contact with some of his buddies then it would be my pleasure to help in any way. I would like to set up for the mailing list for him that way I can relate any information I receive for him. Any information he gives me I will be more then happy to send on to you. He has told me about being shot down and I could only imagine the scene that it was, but now thanks to your website I was able to see the helicopter and know exactly how it looked. he made the comment " I guess that big bulls eye on the bottom wasn't such a good idea". From both of us we thank you for the website and look forward to hearing from you and some of his friends. Sincerely,
George B. Crenshaw Jr.

Attention: all 2009 Reunion bound VHCMA members:
Special Request: Images of in-country rotor aircraft and/or recollections of their nomenclature are WANTED for work-in-progress book to be titled U.S. ARMY HELICOPTER NAMES & NOSE ART IN VIETNAM.
John Brennan and Bob Chenoweth, book researchers & VHCMA members, will be attending the Reno gathering, Thur-Sun, for the purpose of collecting data, images and memoirs for their soon to be published book. More than anything we would love seeing an original decorated Huey battery access door make an appearance in Reno. THAT would be the equivalent of a casino jackpot for sure.

I was a high school friend of CPT John S. Sprewell who made the ultimate sacrifice flying guns in 1970. I was an FO and later an infantry advisor in MAT Team #37 in Song Mao north of Phan Thiet in 1967-68. John was a good friend. I have little doubt that he was an even better soldier and pilot.

It’s been awhile since I’ve been here; I’m glad to see it’s still going. I’ve had email from a few members, Mr. Monti, Mr. Smith, Larry Ritchie and others. Also, I’ve been able to visit with LTC (Ret) Roger Almquist (Taipan 32 ) and his wife at their house, and also Michael Petersen (SP4, Di An 71-72) here in Huntsville, Alabama.

I like Will Gibbons am recovering from six months treatment for Tonsil cancer and even though I never smoked MUCH managed to get it. I never wish this on my worst enemy. The cure is hell Chemotherapy and radiation for 35 visits NO taste buds and then the dry mouth syndrome NO teeth had them pulled out, just false ones now. The result was also that I missed a great trip to USA and the VHCMA Reunion at Reno.
But I am alive and coming along well but not fast enough for me. I lost 22 Kgs (48lbs) and being through a PEG gadget into my stomach I would rather drink Tequila Don Oulio. See you all in Atlanta in June for the VHCMA get together.

Wonderful website. I am always amazed at the depth of information on this website. Also, did you know that we have the updated list of ALL PRESUMPTIVE CONDITIONS that many veterans do not know about? Veterans are encouraged to take a look, they may be eligible for lots of benefits and not know it.

Hey Bill. I just wanted to say hi and see if anyone has ever heard from Dan Oldham or John Maher.  I talk to my old gunner Ken Seaholm. I still live in CA.
I hope to make the next reunion if I find out when and where. Just want to let all the Taipans and EMUS know they are in my prayers for a happy and healthy New Year.

To All former members of the 135th Assault Helicopter Company –

A hearty hello from Australia. I am Colonel Tom Wahlert, an active duty US Army Colonel who is assigned to our US Embassy in Australia as the Army Attaché.

I have recently been contacted by Mrs. Rhonda Vickers Rolevink who is a cousin of RAN LTCDR Pat Vickers, a former member of the 135th that was killed in action on 22 February 1968. Mrs. Rolevink is compiling a biography of Pat and is seeking assistance from anyone who knew him and would be willing to contribute information for the biography.

Mrs. Rolevink is looking for stories and/or personal vignettes about Pat that she might include in her writings. She has contacted several Australians that Pat served with, but would greatly appreciate any information from US Army personnel that served with Pat during his short time with the 135th.

Feel free to contact me directly (wahlerttd[at]state.gov) and I can pass on your details to Mrs. Rolevink or you can write to her directly at the following address (unfortunately she does not maintain an email address):

Mrs. Rhonda Vickers Rolevink
18 William Street
Buderim 4556
Queensland, Australia

Thank you for your service in Vietnam and I look forward to hearing from you.

Cheers, Tom
